Valley View defender Christian Gonzalez became the latest RGV athlete to sign to Jarvis Christian University, signing to play soccer at the school during a ceremony Monday at Valley View High School.

Jarvis Christian University is an NAIA school located in Hawkins, Texas that competes in the Red River Athletic Conference. Currently, 11 RGV natives are listed on the team’s roster.

Gonzalez joins the Bulldogs after a four-year career with the Tigers. This year, Gonzalez was one of the top defenders in the district, earning District 31-5A first team honors.

The senior defender helped the Tigers field a stingy defense this season, pitching six shutouts in 18 contests. The Tigers finished with a 12-3-3 district record this year, earning a share of the District 31-5A title.

Sharyland High senior pitcher and infielder Cole Gerlach signed to play baseball at Wharton County Junior College on May 15 at Sharyland High School.

Wharton County Junior College is located in Wharton, Texas and competes in Region 14 of the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Gerlach, a four-year baseball letterman who also played football, batted .406 this season with 43 hits, 28 runs and 27 RBIs. On the mound, he put together a 6-0 record in 12 appearances with a 2.40 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 61.1 innings pitched.

Gerlach was named District 31-5A’s Defensive Player of the Year during his senior season. He helped Sharyland win the District 31-5A championship and post an overall record of 27-7.

Donna North senior Angel Flores signed to play collegiate soccer at Jarvis Christian University on Friday at Donna North High School.

Jarvis Christian University is a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics school located in Hawkins, Texas that competes in the Red River Athletic Conference.

Flores helped Donna North put together an 11-8-6 overall record and qualify for the playoffs as District 32-5A’s No. 4 seed during his senior season.
