RAYMONDVILLE—Senior quarterback Jacob Posas was a first-team linebacker as a junior and served as the backup quarterback.
Entering the 2018 season, Posas was slated to be the man under center for the Raymondville Bearkats.
Entering a season full of promise and great expectations, Posas answered with a 1,120 rushing yards on 124 carries along with 17 touchdowns. Through the air, Posas threw for 1,531 yards and 11 touchdowns.

For Posas’s strong senior season, the senior signal caller was named Valley Morning Star All-STAR offensive player of the year.
“ Winning this is a big achievement for myself and my family,” Posas said. “I knew I was capable of doing big things. It was just a matter of me staying focused and keeping my eyes on the prize. I worked day in and day out, and now my hard work is playing off.”
Raymondville head coach Frank Cantu broke the news to Posas.
“ I got a text from coach, that he had some good news,” Posas said. “I went by his office and I got the news and I was just at a lost for words, I was excited.”
Along with the dazzling stats, Posas directed a Raymondville offense that scored more than 40 points in seven games and finished the season averaging 38 per game.
It was a result of Posas spending the summer getting in tune with his offense and gaining chemistry with his wide outs.
Over the 7 on 7 season, Posas checked off all the boxes and displayed command of the huddle and found that chemistry.
The added bonus was Raymondville’s run to the state 7 on 7 tournament for the first time in history.
The summer and offseason conditioning came full circle for Posas once the pads came on.
“ All that work in the summer paid off,” Posas said. “As a team we were able to get on the same page, and as a QB it was important for me to get on the same page as my receivers and we were able to do that.”
Looking back on his senior year, Posas reflects on the Cotton Bowl. On the opening drive, Posas broke loose for a 57-yard touchdown that set the tone for the night. Raymondville walked away with a 49-0 win over Lyford while Posas ran for 124 yards and two scores The senior also threw for 110 yards and tossed another score.
The win foreshadowed Posas’s senior year.
“ Going into the Cotton Bowl, some people had their doubts about us, ,” Posas said. “Yes they picked us to win, but there was doubt. I broke that long touchdown run and that feeling was amazing and it was just fuel to the fire for us.”
Posas leaves behind a strong legacy, along with the rest of his senior class. The standard has been set by Posas and company.
“ I told the younger guys to not be satisfied with what we have done,” said Posas. “I told them they have a bright future. I also told them to stay together and to just keep working.”
