Chivas de Guadalajara, Inter Milan women to meet in friendly

BROWNSVILLE — Soccer is back in the city of Brownsville, and tonight the city will play host to an exciting international match featuring top international talent.

The Liga MX Femenil champion Chivas de Guadalajara takes on Inter Milan in a friendly tonight at Brownsville Sports Park. The kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

The founder of Socio MX and CEO of Sports Marketing Monterrey, Jorge Villalobos, addressed the media about why his company picked Brownsville to host the friendly match.

“Soccer here, I do believe, is a social movement that is embedded in the community,” Villalobos said. “It is better to have a kid with a ball in their hand than doing nothing in the streets. The teams fully understand this. The teams are committed in making a positive social impact, and here we are.”

Chivas is undefeated in its first six matches of the 2022-2023 Liga MX Femenil season after winning the Clausura title and the Super-Final in May.

Chivas’ club captain, Carolina Jaramillo, scored a penalty against Toluca during the weekend to help give her side an undefeated start to the new season. The captain is excited and happy about Chivas’ first time playing out of Mexico she said.

Inter Milan club captain Lisa Alborghetti also expressed the same feelings about her team’s first game in North America.

“Thank you to everyone in Brownsville for the welcome, we are so excited to play (today),” Alborghetti said. “We can understand the commitment of the club to help develop and promote women’s football, so we are very excited for it.”
