HARLINGEN — Harlingen High Lady Cardinals softball player Andrea Salinas will continue her softball career at Concordia University.

“It has always been a dream of mine,” Salinas said during a signing ceremony Wednesday. “I have been wanting to play at the next level since I knew the game. Knowing that I am going to the next level is a huge accomplishment.”

Salinas will be headed to Concordia on a presidential scholarship. With a full ride scholarship in hand, Salinas plans to major in political science with the goal of becoming a lawyer.

“I am very proud of Andrea and all that she has accomplished,” said Elaine Salinas, Andrea’s mother. “I am very proud of her hard work and discipline. As parents we are proud.”

Andrea’s father, Joe Salinas, also is proud of his daughter. Salinas has been on varsity since her freshman year, a captain on the team and a two-time all-district player.

“She has worked really hard,” Joe Salinas said. “This is something we dreamed about since she was little. I am excited for her. She deserves it.”

The left fielder joins teammate and one of her best friends, Alexa Perez, to sign with Concordia.

“We have played together since we were 3,” Salinas said. “So being with her for four more years is really going to help me.”

Harlingen High is currently 4-2 and will be playing this weekend at a tournament in Laredo.

“We have all the tools we need to be successful,” Salinas said. “I just want to be stronger than ever and finish my last season as a Cardinal strong.”
