HARLINGEN — Santa Rosa’s Leslie Flores is the THSWPA state champion in the 148-pound weight class.
“I feel very relieved,” Flores said. “I have been working really hard for this and it finally happened, so I am extremely relieved and happy.”
Flores achieved a personal best in every single lift at the meet. Flores squatted 390 pounds, benched 185 pounds and deadlifted 340 pounds.
The 915-pound total bested second place by 30 pounds.
“She worked very hard this year,” Santa Rosa coach Erica Molina said. “She matured a lot from her sophomore year to this year. She really dedicated herself because she wanted to go to state.”
Not only did Flores achieve her goal of making state, but the junior is bringing back gold to Santa Rosa.
