Rocio signs with Ottawa University (Kansas)

LOS FRESNOS — Los Fresnos defensive lineman Vicente Rocio is going to play football at the next level in Ottawa.

Rocio is not headed to the Canadian capital where nearly a million people reside. He is headed to a town in Eastern Kansas with only 12,000 people, just an hour outside of Kansas City. The senior signed for Ottawa University on Friday at Los Fresnos High School.

“It has always been a dream of mine, since I was little kid to play football,” Rocio said. “It feels awesome to be able to complete a dream of mine.”

The Falcons defensive lineman received second team all-district honors on a Falcons team that picked up a bi-district playoff win in 2022 with a 7-5 record.

Rocio is excited about the program in Kansas. Ottawa University is family orientated, and made the Falcons senior feel at home, he said.

Ottawa University competes in the Kansas Athletic Collegiate Conference of the NAIA.
