Guerra a weapon for Lobos

Brownsville Lopez’s Robert Guerra has emerged as one of the aces on the mound for the Lobos this season.

The junior second baseman and three-year varsity letterman has been a key bat in the Lopez lineup, including a three-RBI night against Donna North in a 17-6 win March 8. Guerra held District 32-5A leader Brownsville Veterans Memorial scoreless through the first three innings of his start March 30.

Q: What is your walkup song? Do you have a favorite music genre you tend to listen to?

Guerra: Drip Too Hard (by) Lil Baby and Gunna. My favorite genre is rap/hip-hop.

Q: Do you have a favorite pregame snack?

Guerra: My pregame snack is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Q: What is your favorite baseball team, and who is your favorite player?

Guerra: My favorite baseball team (is) the Houston Astros, and my favorite player is Carlos Correa.

Q: Who in your life do you consider your mentor(s), and why?

Guerra: I consider my grandpa my mentor because he made me the player I am today. He introduced me to baseball and showed me how to play.

Q: DC or Marvel? Do you have a favorite superhero or villain?

Guerra: Marvel and my favorite super hero is Thor.

Q: If you could pack a bag for a weekend road trip with only three items, which ones would you choose?

Guerra: I would pack my PlayStation, a toothbrush and my guitar.

Q: Have you seen any good Netflix shows or movies lately?

Guerra: I recently saw Season 2 of On My Block.

Q: What is the strangest thing you’ve ever seen on a baseball field?

Guerra: The strangest thing I’ve seen on a baseball field is probably when a player hit a line drive and the cover flew off the ball.

Q: Do you play any other sports? If so, what position(s) do you play?

Guerra: I play basketball, and my position is shooting guard.

Q: What are the biggest areas of growth or improvement you’ve seen from yourself and your teammates in your time at Lopez?

Guerra: The biggest areas of growth I’ve seen in myself is that I started pitching this year, and my teammates at Lopez have really gained that playoff experience from last year.
