The La Joya Palmview Lobos were down by three at the break to the Brownsville Porter Cowboys, but they eventually turned the game around. Palmview (2-1) improved to 2-0 in district with 35-27 win on Saturday night at La Joya ISD Stadium in La Joya.

“We got the ball after halftime, and we drove the ball down the field, wasting about seven minutes off the clock,” La Joya Palmview coach Margarito Requenez said. “Then we pooch kicked it, recovered it, and then we took the lead.”

The Lobos’ ground game was effective once more. Following a three-touchdown performance in Week 2, senior Mario Chapa ran for three more against the Cowboys defense. Fellow senior Jalen Ybarra ran for two more.

Palmview will have a short week as it will face another much improved team in Donna High (2-1, 1-1) next Thursday night.

“Our coaching staff has a big assignment ahead of them,” Requenez said. “We’ve got practice Monday, and we’ll go from there.”
