Lyford’s Layne Klostermann earned this week’s Valley Morning Star’s male player of the week in a 2-1 victory over Santa Rosa on Tuesday.

On the mound, Klostermann gave up no hits, threw 10 strikeouts, three walks, one hit by pitch, and one unearned run.

The victory kept the Bulldogs in the 32-3A District title hunt heading into tonight’s game against IDEA Quest.

“Layne has done a tremendous job this season,” said Lyford head coach Chris Cervantes. “His selflessness is evident and as coaches we see how he puts the team’s needs over himself. He has been asked to play multiple positions this year and has really stepped up when his number has been called.

“His passion for the game is one of the things that really stands out to me. He’s just coming back from a fractured bone in his hand and threw a no hitter the other night which shows just how tough he is.”

And Klostermann’s talents have not gone unnoticed, earlier this year he signed his letter of intent to play baseball for Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio.
