Mission Veterans boys basketball coach Romeo de la Garza has been placed on administrative leave, MCISD confirmed Monday.

De la Garza was not on the bench for either of the Patriots’ two games late last week.

MCISD public relations director Craig Verley declined to make any further statement on the situation, saying he can’t comment on “personnel matters.”

De la Garza could not be reached for comment, and Mission Veterans football coach and athletic coordinator David Gilpin declined to comment.

De la Garza has been the boys basketball coach at Mission Veterans since the school’s first season in 2005.

This year, the Patriots are 15-13 overall and 4-6 in District 31-5A. Assistant coach Jeffrey Espino will serve as the interim coach.
