Harlingen hadn’t played a game since their loss to Weslaco on December 19. On Tuesday, the Lady Cards rebounded with a strong 72-31 win against Weslaco East.

Big Red got a strong performance from Alyssa Cervantes who netted 20 points, Ariel Leal scored 14 and Taegan Dickey dished 10 points.

Harlingen improves their district record to 3-1, and will now shift their focus to Los Fresnos Fri-day at 7:30 at Los Fresnos. “We’re looking forward to a competitive game against Los Fresnos,” said Harlingen coach Ashley Moncivaiz. “Our team has progressed as the season goes and tonight our bench will be key.”

The Lady Greyhounds are a perfect 4-0 in district play after a convincing 46-24 win against Harlingen South on Tuesday. Miranda Vallejo scored a game high 17 points while Mikayla Garcia netted 12 points in the win against South.

San Benito has Brownsville Hanna on Friday at 3:30. If the Lady Hounds can get passed the Lady Eagles, it would set up a battle of unbeaten teams next Tuesday when San Benito hosts Weslaco.

“Our expectation was nothing less than to try and compete for a district title,” said San Benito coach Abel Moreno. “Our plan is to win against Hanna and prepare for Weslaco next week. Our district is tough, but that was our plan and the girls have stepped up.”

Harlingen South, meanwhile, is looking to bounce back after a tough loss against San Benito. The Lady Hawks are currently 2-2 in district play and will take on Weslaco at home on Friday with the tip off set for 2:30 p.m.

Weslaco is currently 4-0 in district play and have district wins against, Hanna, Harlingen, Rivera and Weslaco East.

Santa Maria continues their strong play this season with their latest win coming against Brownsville Frontier, 40-33. In the win, Lorena Ayala posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 steals, while teammate Yazmin Cantu netted eight points and eight rebounds.
Santa Maria will now prepare for their district opener at San Isidro with the tip off set for 6 p.m.
