No. 2 Weslaco East
2016 record: 8-5, 4-3 in 32-6A, regional semifinalist
Of note: The Wildcats finished fourth in the Valley’s toughest district last year and played arguably the best in the postseason. Weslaco East comes back even stronger with 26 returning lettermen, including fourth-year starters Roy Pedraza (1,922 yards, 20 TDs in 2016) and J.C. Vargas poised to run wild over opposing defenses. Their defense returns eight players and it will be tough to out work that group any given Friday.
