Harlingen South, Weslaco East and Los Fresnos are all vying for the final two spots in District 32-6A. All three teams boast 7-5 league records with two games remaining on the schedule.

Weslaco East and Harlingen South meet tonight at Weslaco East while Los Fresnos is at Brownsville Rivera. The Lady Hawks won their first meeting vs. East 9-6 and have the upper hand if they where to complete a season sweep.

Los Fresnos, meanwhile, is coming off a win against Harlingen that kept its playoff hopes alive. The Lady Falcons are looking to complete a sweep against Rivera before their season finale against Weslaco.

LADY BOBCATS AIMING FOR FOUR-PEAT: The Rio Hondo Lady Bobcats’ dominating season continues.

Fresh off their 14-0 win against Grulla on Tuesday, the Lady Cats sit at a perfect 11-0 in District 32-4A, but there is much work still to be done.

A home win tonight against Hidalgo would clinch the conference title and it would mark the fourth consecutive league title for the Lady Cats under head coach Brett Esparza.

Esparza is in his sixth season as head coach and has the Lady Bobcats clicking at the right time.

“The last three games we have been preparing for the postseason. We are blessed to be in this position,” said Esparza. “Our main thing is wanting to make some noise in the playoffs because we feel we have the team in place to do something special.”

Rio Hondo’s offense has been fueled by cleanup hitter Tianna Sandoval, who is second on the team in hits with 37 and second in homers with three all while collecting 25 RBIs.

Meanwhile, leadoff hitter Bianca Cruz leads the team in homers with four, is hitting .591 with 44 RBIs and has 37 hits.

“Bianca can do a lot for us at the top of the order; she can bunt and slap. She really gets our offense going and sets up Tianna in the middle of the order who has done a nice job of driving in runs.” Esparza said.
