Most Rio Grande Valley high school football teams were on a bye last week, so there wasn’t significant change for this week’s RGVSports.com Top 10 poll.

But there was movement nonetheless, including a new team.

PSJA North moved into the Top 10 following its 31-0 win at La Joya High. The victory improved the Raiders to 3-0 and has them No. 10 heading into Week 5.

For the third straight week, San Benito was picked by RGVSports.com’s seven voters as the unanimous No. 1 team. The Greyhounds were on a bye last week and are 3-0. They visit No. 4 Los Fresnos for their District 32-6A opener on Friday.

The seven voters are writers who cover RGV high school football for AIM Media’s three newspapers (the Monitor, Valley Morning Star and Brownsville Herald).

Los Fresnos fell two spots after losing 32-30 at home to McAllen Memorial last week. It was the first loss of the season for the Falcons, who have wins over Edcouch-Elsa and McAllen High.

Edcouch-Elsa moved up a spot to No. 2. The Yellowjackets thumped La Joya Juarez-Lincoln 47-14 last week to go to 2-1. Edcouch-Elsa has won two straight and opens District 32-5A play against Donna North this week.

Edinburg Vela moved up a spot despite a bye week and is at No. 3. The SaberCats are 2-1 and host Edinburg North to open 31-6A play Friday.

Weslaco High remained No. 5. The Panthers had a bye last week and play rival Weslaco East to open 32-6A play Friday.

Edinburg Economedes stayed No. 6 and is 3-0 heading into its district opener Thursday at home against Edinburg High.

Harlingen High is No. 7 and coming off a bye after two losses to Laredo United South and San Antonio Reagan. The 1-2 Cardinals play Harlingen South to open 32-6A play Friday.

Weslaco East is No. 8. The Wildcats had a bye last week after suffering their first loss of the season in Week 3 against Economedes. East plays Weslaco High to open 32-6A play Friday.

McAllen Memorial jumps back into the poll after a one-week absence. The Mustangs are 2-1 after a big win at Los Fresnos last week.

Memorial hosts La Joya Palmview in its District 30-6A opener Friday.

The aforementioned Raiders are No. 10 and play PSJA Memorial to open District 31-6A play Thursday.

Other teams receiving votes in this week’s poll: Brownsville St. Joseph, Port Isabel, Harlingen South, Mission Veterans Memorial and McAllen Rowe.
