Valley entrants drop to state 7-on-7 consolation bracket

McAllen Memorial, Mercedes and Sharyland Pioneer will all be playing in the state 7-on-7 consolation bracket today after failing to finish in the top half of their respective groups Friday in College Station.

Memorial came the closest to advancing, finishing in third place in Pool P at 1-2. After starting with a 41-40 win against Ellison, the Mustangs lost 31-13 to Cypress Ranch and 40-26 to Arlington.

Mercedes finished in a three-way tie at 1-2 in Pool H, but ranked last in the tiebreaker. The Tigers opened with a 37-33 win against Tomball Memorial before dropping 38-7 to Alamo Heights and 21-20 to DeSoto.

Pioneer was winless in its first state appearance, losing 51-39 to Plano East, 33-27 to Dickinson and 33-27 to Harker Heights in Pool E.
