McAllen Memorial senior Trevor Speights had three carries for 15 yards during the US Under-19 team’s 33-0 victory over Canada on Sunday in the International Bowl at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

The win by the United States marked the first in a series of games that started Sunday and will continue throughout the week in Texas. The International Bowl is the premier annual international competition in football, featuring more than 600 of the top high school and junior high football players in the United States and Canada.

Speights was the lone Valley player on the 37-man roster, and one of 12 from Texas.

As the national governing bodies of the sport, USA Football and Football Canada assemble and manage the official national teams for their respective countries. USA Football is a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee.

“It’s not easy getting these guys to come together that quickly, but I’m proud of the way we did manage to put it together,” US coach Shaun Aguano said. “There’s a bunch of 4- and 5-star talent on our roster, so we knew it was just matter of time before we started to get rolling. It’s a good group of kids and I think they did their country proud with today’s effort.”
