After another week and another couple of wins, the Harlingen Lady Cardinals basketball team moved up another spot in the state rankings.

The Lady Cards, who are now 17-1 on the season, moved up to No. 11 in Class 6A on the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and Tex Preps Basketball Magazine rankings.

This past week, the Lady Red Birds improved to 3-0 in District 32-6A play with easy wins over Brownsville Hanna (57-45) and San Benito (72-41).

And while many Valley teams are taking a break for the Christmas holidays, Harlingen will play today and Wednesday at the Blizzard Bash Tournament in McAllen.

As in past rankings, the Lady Cardinals continue to trail San Antonio Clark, who is in this week at No. 10 and is the only team to have beaten them this season.

In Class 5A, the Sharyland Lady Rattlers (15-7) dropped to No. 25 after being ranked 21st last week.

On the boys side, Edinburg Vela jumped from No. 23 to 11 in Class 5A after improving to 18-1. Meanwhile in Class 6A, Brownsville Veterans moved up a spot to No. 22 after improving to 15-2 and winning the title at this past weekend’s Tri-City Classic in Pharr.

In Class 3A, Lyford (14-3) remained at No. 25 and in Class 2A, San Isidro (13-2) stayed put at No. 18.
