La Joya wrestling teams win Austin, Grulla tournaments

La Joya wrestling programs were big winners this weekend, with the Juarez-Lincoln’s boys team finishing in first place at the Centex Wrestling Tournament in Austin on Friday and the Palmview girls claiming top honors at Grulla Gator Roll on Saturday.

Juarez-Lincoln was the only Valley team at the Centex Tournament which featured programs throughout the state. The Huskies accumulated 124 points, edging runner-up Georgetown (117) and third-place Coppell (106.5).

Palmview’s girls team totaled 160 points at the Grulla Gator Roll, narrowly beating Edinburg Vela (157) and Grulla and Rio Grande City (92), which tied for third. Mission Veterans (85) finished fifth.

On the boys side of the Gator Roll, Rio Grande City (161.5) came in first. Mission High (157), Grulla (148.5), Sharyland High (146.5) and McAllen High (138) followed.
