As most teams reached the halfway point of the regular season last week, there wasn’t much change atop the RGVSports.com Top 10 high school football poll heading into Week 6.

McAllen Memorial, Edinburg Vela, Harlingen High and Los Fresnos remain the top four teams. The Mustangs earned six of seven first-place votes after improving to 5-0 with a rout of La Joya High last week.

Vela earned the other first-place vote and improved to 5-0 with its dramatic 48-47 win over Sharyland High.

Harlingen High won its third game in a row to move to 3-1. Los Fresnos is 4-0 after routing Brownsville Lopez on Saturday.

Weslaco High and Brownsville Veterans Memorial swapped places this week. The Panthers are now No. 5, improving to 3-2 with a dominating win over PSJA North. Brownsville Vets drops to sixth despite improving to 5-0.

Sharyland High moves up two spots to No. 7 despite its loss at Vela last week. The Rattlers are 2-3.

Roma joins Brownsville Vets as the only undefeated teams in the bottom half of the poll. The Gladiators are No. 8 heading into this week’s showdown against Vela in The Monitor’s Game of the Week.

San Benito is No. 9 at 3-1, and Weslaco East re-enters the poll at No. 10 after dispatching Edinburg North last week.

Edcouch-Elsa, Mission Veterans Memorial and Brownsville Hanna also received votes in this week’s poll.
