Quarterback Jason Perez scored on a short run during the fourth overtime of his District 31-5A game Saturday, lifting Rio Grande City to a 24-18 win over Valley View at Joe R. Sanchez Stadium.

Perez’s score was set up by a run from Casimiro Olivarez that put the Rattlers at the 1-yard line. RGC (3-4, 1-2) then preserved the lead with a fourth-down stop that allowed it to snap a three-game skid.

“The kids were just resilient,” RGC coach Carlos Longoria said. “They kept playing. Valley View played a great game. They were ahead of us (9-0) at halftime, but the kids kept plugging away.”

The Rattlers last win came in Week 3, when they beat La Joya Palmview 35-34 in overtime.

Valley View (0-6, 0-2) has lost by an average of 5.2 points per game.
