Five Valley volleyball players were named to Texas Sports Writers Association All-State teams, which were announced Wednesday.
Mission Veterans outside hitter Gabby Lerma made the third team, and teammate D.D. Ibarra earned honorable mention honors at setter. The Lady Patriots won their second consecutive district title and finished the season 34-7, making a run to the regional semifinals.
Donna High also had two players selected, as Marina Martinez and Haley Coleman both earned honorable mention honors at outside hitter. Donna won a share of a district championship but finished the season 34-10 after being upset by Edinburg Vela in the first round of the playoffs.
Brownsville Rivera’s Daniela Carrion was the Valley’s only representative in Class 6A, earning the nod as a third-team libero.
