Bloodhounds put perfect record to the test with pair of weekend matches

The St. Joseph Academy Bloodhounds are off to a 4-0 start this soccer season with a pair of crucial TAPPS district games coming up this weekend against San Antonio Antonian.

The Bloodhounds play host to Antonian(3-2) at 7 p.m. Friday at Canales Field and play the Apaches again at 2 p.m. Saturday at the same site.

“Because of scheduling difficulties later in the season, we’re playing Antonianin Brownsville on back-to-back days,” SJA coach TinoVillarreal said. “We’ll play them twice in San Antonionext year.

“We’re in a tough district,” Villarreal added. “(San Antonio) Central Catholic was the (TAPPS) state champion last year.”

Besides SJA, Central Catholic and Antonian, the other team in the TAPPS district is San Antonio St. Anthony’s.

The Bloodhounds are coming off last Saturday’s 15-1 victory over St. Anthony’s in San Antonio. Gerardo Moses and Jose Kauachi each scored four goals for the Bloodhounds against the Yellowjackets.

Antonianis coming off Tuesday’s 4-3 loss to Central Catholic (3-0). Central Catholic scored all four of its goals during the second half.
