Sharyland High’s reign at No. 1 in RGVSports.com poll continues

Sharyland High’s run as the area’s top squad continues.

The Rattlers, who are coming off a 28-23 road win over Laredo United, received all six first-place votes. Sharyland (2-0) will put its regular season 25-game winning streak on the line when it takes on Brownsville Rivera at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sams Stadium.

McAllen Memorial jumped from No. 4 to No. 2 after a 69-38 pounding of Edinburg Economedes. The Mustangs (1-1) travel to take on San Benito on Friday.

McAllen High also moved up two spots to No. 3. McHi (1-1) earned its first win of the season after a 32-6 victory over Edinburg High. McHi travels Friday to take on Harlingen High, the No. 5 team. Harlingen fell to San Antonio Reagan 42-0 in its season opener.

The Cardinals (0-1) were ranked No. 2 last week.
Port Isabel (2-0), the only sub-5A team in the rankings, checks in at No. 4. P.I. is coming off a victory over Rio Grande City and welcomes Hidalgo on Friday.

Mission Veterans Memorial (1-1) dropped three spots to No. 6 after a 44-8 loss to Odessa Permian. The Patriots traveled to Odessa for the game. This week, the Patriots stay in the Valley with a Friday road game in La Joya against La Joya Juarez-Lincoln.

Edinburg North (2-0) has quietly had a good start to its season. North is No. 7 this week after a 24-21 overtime victory over Rivera. Up next for North is a road game Friday at Edcouch-Elsa.

There is a tie at No. 8 between Edinburg Vela and Weslaco East. Both teams are 2-0 and coming off Week 2 victories. Vela knocked off Harlingen South 42-17 in an impressive road win. Weslaco East dispatched San Benito 42-14. This week, East plays host to South on Friday while Vela hosts a Thursday game against La Joya High at Cats Stadium.

Mercedes (1-1) is No. 10 after beating McAllen Rowe 39-12. Mercedes takes on La Feria on the road Friday. The Tigers were not ranked in Week 2.

Rowe was the only team to be knocked out of the Top 10 from the previous week.
