Roma’s Peter Rodriguez rushed for three TDs on 190 yards as the Gladiators picked up a 24-6 road win over Cigarroa on Saturday.

Rodriguez ignited a Roma offense that totaled 360 on the ground. The defense did its part, too, chewing up 20 of 24 minutes in the second half.

“This is a team,” Roma coach Max Habecker Jr. said. “I’m proud of the guys. The defense played real tough all game against a very, very tough offense. Thank goodness we were able to execute our game plan and play our style of football.”

The Gladiators (2-0) allowed a 70-yard touchdown run on the opening drive that accounted for nearly half of the Toros’ offense. At halftime, Roma led 7-6.

“We just communicated to the kids the mistake that we made (in allowing the first score) and we fixed it,” Habecker said. “It’s just stuff that happens in footba.. We had to make sure we were aligned right. We made the adjustment and that was it.”
