PSJA North makes debut in Top 10 poll

For the first time this season, PSJA North is ranked in RGVSports.com’s Top 10 poll.

The 3-3 Raiders, who are ranked No. 10, are 2-0 in District 31-6A and have shown they are an improved team from an 0-10 campaign in 2013. PSJA North squares off against PSJA Memorial on Friday at PSJA Stadium in Pharr.

Sharyland High is ranked No. 1 again, picking up four first-place votes. The 5-1 Rattlers are coming off a win over Mission Veterans Memorial in Week 6. Sharyland has a bye this week.

McAllen Memorial (5-1) received one first-place vote and is ranked No. 2. Port Isabel also received one first-place vote. The Tarpons (5-0) were idle in Week 6 and dropped one spot to No. 5, flip-flopping with Edinburg Vela, which is coming off a blowout victory over Roma. Vela (5-1) is now No. 4.

McAllen High (4-2) checks in at No. 3. The Bulldogs take on McAllen Rowe on Friday in a city rivalry game.

Mercedes (4-1) climbed two spots to No. 6 and takes on Donna High this week. Harlingen High (3-2) also climbed two spots to No. 7 and faces San Benito on Friday in the Battle of the Arroyo.

Mission Veterans (3-2) slid from No. 6 to No. 8 after its loss to Sharyland. Weslaco East (5-1) also dropped two spots to No. 9 despite its win over PSJA Memorial in Week 6.

Los Frensos and Edinburg North dropped out of the poll this week. The teams were tied at No. 10 last week.
