St. Joseph boys 10th, girls 12th at state meet

WACO — The St. Joseph Academy boys placed 10th and the SJA girls were 12th at Saturday’s TAPPS cross country state meet.

Competing in the TAPPS Class 5A division, the SJA boys ran 3.1 miles and the girls ran 3,200 meters over a course at Waco Connally Middle School.

El Paso Cathedral won the 5A boys team title with 34 points behind its top runner, Eric R. Peters, who placed first in 16 minutes, 22.4 seconds.

The Bloodhounds were 10th with 285 points. SJA’s top finishers were Mario Oliva Sanchez (17th), Daniel Juarez (46th), Sean Humphreys (68th), Julian Montfort (72nd) and Marte Rodriguez (82nd).

San Antonio Antonian won the 5A girls team title with 42 points. Antonian’s top runners came in second and third, and Argyle Liberty Christian’s Elizabeth Reneau won the 3,200-meter race in 11:15.8.

SJA’s girls finished 12th with 335 points. Top finishers for the Lady Bloodhounds were Gaby Garza (55th), Ileana Polanco (67th), Mari Jose Del Pozo (69th), Paulina Varela (70th) and Priscila Hernandez (74th).
