Hanna tennis finishes third in area tournament

STAFF REPORTS

The Hanna Golden Eagles’ tennis team defeated the PSJA Memorial Wolverines 10-8 in the third-place match Friday at PSJA Memorial.

The match was won thanks to a boys squad that edged the Wolverines 5-4, a win in the mixed doubles contest and a girls side that was tied at 4 when the match was clinched.

“We played OK,” Hanna coach Terry Hoover said. “The boys stepped up, and the girls seemed a bit flat. But it was tough coming all the way (to PSJA Memorial) after playing (Thursday).”

The win wraps up the team portion of the tennis season, but the individual season is set to begin in just weeks at the Tournament of Champions at Harlingen High.

With Harlingen South defeating Harlingen High 10-1 in the championship match Friday, District 32-6A teams captured first, second and third place in the area tournament.
