Hanna tennis splits in first day of playoffs

STAFF REPORT

The Hanna Golden Eagles traveled to Harlingen High to compete in the area team tennis tournament Thursday.

Hanna finished in third place in District 32-6A on the season and faced Weslaco High in the opening match of the postseason. The Eagles won 12-7, led by a girls group that went 8-1. The boys posted a 3-6 record, and Hanna won the mixed doubles match.

“We had some rough spots (in our match against Weslaco High),” Hanna coach Terry Hoover said. “But I was encouraged that we were able to pull through.”

Hanna advanced to play the first-place Harlingen South Hawks in the semifinal round but lost 10-0. The loss means the Eagles will play PSJA Memorial for third place in the consolation match, which will be held at 9 a.m. Friday.
